NFSJ Successfully organized Meet the Scientist-Episode 4, featuring Dr. Ajit Karna
Kathmandu–
The Nepal Forum of Science Journalists (NFSJ) has successfully organized Meet the Scientist-Episode 4,” featuring the accomplished infectious disease microbiologist and epidemiologist, Dr. Ajit Karna.
During this event, Dr. Karna shared invaluable insights and experiences related to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and vaccination. Dr. Karna emphasized that AMR could potentially evolve into a silent pandemic in Nepal in the coming years, underscoring the urgency for the government to take proactive measures in disease prevention. He pointed out that the indiscriminate use of antibiotics presents a significant health concern in Nepal, as these antibiotics can enter our bodies through fruits, vegetables, and meat, diminishing our resistance and rendering antibiotics ineffective.
Dr. Karna passionately urged the government to implement a comprehensive “One Health” policy to address AMR issues in Nepal, stressing the importance of a national plan to combat AMR effectively. In addition to Dr. Karna’s enlightening discourse, NFSJ’s Vice President, Madhusudhan Guragain, provided a background on NFSJ and the “Meet the Scientist” program. He highlighted the program’s mission to bridge the gap between the scientific community and journalists, expressing optimism that it will prove beneficial and continue in the future. A question and answer session took place following the presentation.
